How it's used correctly

Require a real preceding trend, equal extremes within a few pips/points, and a body close beyond the neckline. Target = distance from extreme to neckline projected past the break.

Common mistake

Calling any two touches at similar prices a 'double X.' Without a prior trend, it's just a range.
